Instructions
(this is the same as the instruction sheet that went home with you after the workshop...in case it has been misplaced!)• Wait 24 hours after dyeing your shirt
• Your tie-dye was made using Procion dyes, which are “fiber-reactive”. This means that the dye does
not just sit on top of the fibers, it actually becomes a part of those fibers. In order to do this the dye
needs to stay active in the damp fabric for 24 hours. So, if you want a really beautiful, ever-lasting
tie-dye please be patient and wait before you remove your shirt from the plastic bag and proceed with
these instructions! You will be glad that you did!
• Remove tied shirt from plastic bag and rinse thoroughly under running water to remove as much
excess dye as possible
• You want to do this before you untie the shirt to prevent any extra dye from bleeding into the white
parts of your design. Make sure to rinse and squeeze until there is little or no dye running out of the
fabric. (Be sure to wear gloves or baggies on your hands!)
• Untie your shirt and say “WOW, I did that!”
• Wash your shirt ALL BY ITSELF in the washing machine in hot water. If possible, use a concentrated
detergent without artificial brighteners. No bleach!
• Wash the shirt by itself the first couple of times to be sure that the colors do not bleed.
• Enjoy your beautiful new tie-dyed shirt!
